Online bashing and further news

Hey peeps!

So recently we came across a blog post on the medium.com site by the guys responsible for another project (grayhatwarfare) that has popped up with features similar to ours. Unfortunately these guys decided to take the word of the folks responsible for buckhacker.com [currently offline] as concrete and bash us referring to us as a “copycat”. We certainly are not going to sink to their level and bash them because we feel that would be just as childish and pathetic and besides we are quite impressed with their project. We would just like the opportunity to point out for the record that we have always had various ideas in mind just never put them into practice nor online and feel that ‘buckhacker’ or ‘buck hacker’ is actually a pretty easy and common name to come up with so it would logically stand to reason that someone else might come up with that name too.

News

As a result of us coming under fire because of the fact we have the same name as someone else with a similar project, we’ve decided to distance ourselves and thus will be redirecting our domain to our new site very soon.

We have also been getting word that our new and recent site design is too close to that of the Gray Hat Warfare ‘Liberty-UI Admin’ template so are in the process of another redesign, however this time we won’t be taking the site offline for maintenance but we will simply put the new design into effect when we set the redirect into motion.

What other features would users like to see on our site? Let us know in the comments.

Downtime and Fresh New Design

Hey folks!

So unfortunately we’ve been down for maintenance for quite some time now, however fear not as we’re not going to be down permanently! Thought we’d better express thanks for patience while we add more buckets to our list, refine the database search and also add a fresh new look to the site as it has not changed since being launched.

So far the following have been finished:

Database Search Refinement

New Site Design

We’re still working on adding buckets to the list but unfortunately this does take time and while we’ve been adding new buckets some of them have been secured and thus there is no longer access to them. We’re keeping a watchful eye on the entire list and trying to keep it as up to date as possible but it’s not very easy as with every bucket secured we have to remove that bucket and the file listing.

Please bare with us though as we will be back online soon!

Watch this space!

New blog, new thoughts

Hey all!

So we decided it would be an idea to create our own blog to express thoughts as well as address some recent issues.

As of writing this our site is currently undergoing maintenance to add a large list of newly discovered open buckets to the search index so apologies for that. We would also like to address a certain blog post by the owners of buckhacker.com which has been posted to this address: https://medium.com/@thebuckhacker/the-pandora-bucket-unleashed-e7fac79cbe19 as we feel we’re being somewhat bashed in a rather small but petty way.

It is no secret that there are many open Amazon S3 buckets and this has been a constant concern for quite some time going way back before BuckHacker even existed. We have been referred to as, and I quote “we are not related to www.thebuckhacker.com (copycat)” by the blog post on medium.com which in our opinion is a small but rather petty and pathetic way of bashing us and our site when ours looks nothing like buckhacker.com ever did! Our site also uses a completely different way of inserting newly discovered buckets as well as the fact ours works and doesn’t collapse under the pressure of lots of user visits.

We’d also like to bring to light the fact that before we decided to call our site The BuckHacker we had already gone through a number of other names. BuckHacker or The BuckHacker are NOT unique names by any means but unlike the guys responsible for that blog post we’re not going to bash their project or call them copycats. Here is a small sample list of the names we originally came up with back in mid 2017:

  • Hacked Bucket Search
  • AWS Bucket Search
  • AwsBuck Searcher
  • Open Bucket Search
  • Open BuckSearch
  • BucketHacker
  • BreachedBuck Search

The list does actually go on quite a bit more but as it can be clearly seen we put some thought into what we were going to call our site. There are no doubt other sites that have exactly the same or similar functionality but again we’re not going to bash these sites instead kudos to them for putting in time and effort.

New Thoughts

Now that we’ve addressed an issue we’d like to share some new thoughts on the project. Ever since we were originally bashed openly by the guys that think they had the original idea, we’ve thought about changing the name of our site. Once again we’ve gone digging into the list of names.

There was once an awesome but simple search tool called ‘Open Facebook Status Search’ which later became ‘Open Status Search’ due to Facebook threatening to have the original domain taken down. It stands to reason that something along the lines of ‘Open Bucket Search’ could easily be created and therefore separating us from the petty guys at BuckHacker who think they own the name.

Anyway that is it for now guys. Drop us your comments or suggestions and keep checking back as the search will be coming back online soon! 🙂
